- Clear tubing of appropriate length
- Wrench
- Container or bottle for collecting brake fluid
- Funnel
- Clean Brake Fluid DOT3 or DOT4
- Rags
- Safety Glasses
Procedure
1. Safety Precautions:
- Wear safety glasses and prepare the materials needed for bleeding.
2. Locate Bleeder Screws:
- Open the hood of your Toyota Hiace and find the brake master cylinder.
- Identify the front brake lines and follow them to locate the bleeder screws on each front wheel.
3. Prepare Clear Tubing:
- Attach one end of the clear tubing to the bleeder screw. Place the other end into a clean container or bottle to collect the brake fluid.
4. Prepare Brake Master Cylinder:
- Remove the cap of the brake master cylinder and inspect the brake fluid level.
- If the brake fluid is low, add enough new fluid to bring the level close to the "Max" mark.
5. Start Bleeding Procedure:
- Begin with one of the front wheels. Turn the key to "On" without starting the engine.
- Press and hold the brake pedal while another person simultaneously opens and closes the bleeder screw on that front wheel.
- Watch for air bubbles in the tubing and continue this sequence until no air bubbles appear in the collected fluid.
6. Repeat for Other Side:
- Once the first front wheel is bled, move to the other side and repeat the same procedure.
7. Check Fluid Levels:
- After bleeding both front wheels, return to the brake master cylinder and ensure the fluid level is still where it should be. Add more brake fluid if necessary.
8. Test Brake Pedal:
- Perform a test run of your vehicle to check the brake performance. Ensure that the brake pedal feels firm and brakes function properly.
9. Clean Up:
- Remove the tubing and any spilled brake fluid. Clean up the brake components and surrounding areas with a rag.
Remember, bleeding brakes is a critical task that affects your safety. If you are uncomfortable with the procedure, it is recommended to have it done by a qualified mechanic.
