How do you change the rotors on a front wheel drive?

Tools and Materials:

- Lug wrench

- Jack and jack stands

- Wheel chocks

- Caliper bolts

- Flathead screwdriver

- C-clamp

- Brake cleaner

- New brake rotors

- New brake pads (optional)

Instructions:

1.) Prepare your vehicle.

Park your vehicle on a level surface and engage the parking brake. Loosen the lug nuts on the front wheels, but do not remove them completely.

2.) Raise the vehicle.

Place the jack under the vehicle and jack it up until the front wheels are off the ground. Place the jack stands under the vehicle and lower the vehicle onto them.

3.) Remove the wheels.

Use the lug wrench to remove the lug nuts and remove the wheels.

4.) Remove the caliper bolts.

Locate the caliper bolts on the back of the caliper. There are usually two bolts. Use the wrench to loosen the bolts and remove them.

5.) Remove the caliper.

Gently pull the caliper off the rotor. Be careful not to damage the brake line.

6.) Remove the old rotor.

Use the flathead screwdriver to pry the old rotor off the hub. Be careful not to damage the hub or the wheel bearing.

7.) Clean the hub.

Use the brake cleaner to clean the hub. Make sure that the hub is free of any dirt or debris.

8.) Install the new rotor.

Place the new rotor on the hub. Make sure that the rotor is seated properly and that it is not rubbing against the brake pads.

9.) Reinstall the caliper.

Gently slide the caliper back onto the rotor. Make sure that the caliper is seated properly and that it is not rubbing against the rotor.

10.) Reinstall the caliper bolts.

Replace the caliper bolts and tighten them until they are snug.

11.) Reinstall the wheels.

Place the wheels back on the vehicle and replace the lug nuts. Tighten the lug nuts until they are snug.

12.) Lower the vehicle.

Lower the vehicle off the jack stands and onto the ground. Remove the jack and jack stands.

13.) Test the brakes.

Pump the brake pedal several times until the brakes feel firm. Drive the vehicle slowly to test the brakes.

Note: If you are also replacing the brake pads, now is the time to do so.
