- Do not remove the lug nuts completely at this point.
2.Jack up the vehicle:
- Position the jack under the vehicle, near the rusty rim.
- Jack the vehicle up until the tire is off the ground.
3. Remove the lug nuts:
Use the lug wrench to remove the lug nuts that hold the rusty rim in place.
4.Spray rust penetrant on the rim:
Apply a generous amount of rust penetrant to the lug nut holes, the lug nuts, and the rim itself.
Allow the rust penetrant to sit for a few minutes to soak in and loosen the rust.
5.Use a steel brush to remove surface rust:
Use the steel brush to remove any surface rust that you can see on the rim.
6. Pry the rim off:
- Place the pry bar between the rim and the hub.
- Pry the rim off the hub, using a back-and-forth motion.
- Repeat this step around the entire rim until it comes loose.
7. Remove the rim:
- Once the rim is loose, pull it straight off the hub.
- If the rim is still stuck, use the hammer to tap it gently around the edges until it comes loose.
8.Clean the hub:
- Use a rag and some WD-40 to clean the hub of any rust or debris.
9. Place the new rim on the hub:
- Place the new rim on the hub and align the lug nut holes with the holes on the hub.
10.Reinsert lug nuts:
- Reinstall the lug nuts that you removed earlier.
11. Tighten the lug nuts:
Use the lug wrench to tighten the lug nuts in a star pattern, tightening each lug nut a little bit at a time until they are snug.
12. Lower the vehicle:
- Use the jack to lower the vehicle until the tire is back on the ground.
13. Tighten the lug nuts:
- Use the lug wrench to give the lug nuts one final turn to ensure that they are tight.
14. Test the wheel:
- Spin the wheel to make sure that it is not loose.
- If the wheel is loose, tighten the lug nuts until it is snug.
15. Take the car for a test drive:
- Drive the vehicle around to ensure the new rim is properly secured and there are no issues.
