- 1 cup of baking soda
- 1/2 cup of vinegar
- 1 old towel
- 1 scrub brush
- 2 cups of water
- Empty spray bottle
Instructions:
Step 1: Prepare the Washing Machine
- Power off the washing machine and unplug it.
- Open the washing machine door and remove all clothes or items.
- Prepare a spray bottle by mixing the baking soda and vinegar in a ratio of 2:1 (2 cups of baking soda and 1 cup of vinegar). Shake well to mix the solution.
Step 2: Spray the Solution
- Spray the baking soda and vinegar mixture onto the rubber rim inside the washing machine, ensuring it covers all affected areas.
- Allow the solution to sit for about 30 minutes to give it time to work on the mildew.
Step 3: Scrub the Rubber Rim
- Wet the old towel with warm water and use it to wipe off any excess solution from the rubber rim.
- Use the scrub brush to gently scrub the rubber rim, paying close attention to areas where mildew is visible.
- Scrub the rubber rim thoroughly, making sure to get into all the crevices and folds.
Step 4: Rinse the Rubber Rim
- Use a clean, damp towel to wipe off any remaining solution and scrub marks from the rubber rim.
- Continue wiping until the rubber rim is clean and free of any residue.
Step 5: Dry the Rubber Rim
- Leave the washing machine door open to air dry the rubber rim.
- Alternatively, you can use a clean, dry towel to pat dry the rubber rim.
- Make sure the rubber rim is completely dry before closing the washing machine door and plugging it back in.
Prevention Tips:
- After each wash cycle, leave the washing machine door open to allow air to circulate and prevent moisture buildup.
- Regularly clean the rubber rim with a mixture of baking soda and water to prevent mildew growth.
- Avoid overloading the washing machine, as this can cause excess moisture and create a favorable environment for mildew growth.
- If you notice any mildew spots on the rubber rim, promptly clean them to prevent further growth and spreading.
