1. First, ensure the vehicle is off and the transmission in neutral. Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery to avoid any electrical accidents.
2. Locate the starter. In the 1970 VW Beetle, the starter is positioned in the front, on the top of the engine block.
3. Disconnect the starter wires and unbolt the starter from the bell housing using a socket wrench.
4. Remove the old starter from the engine compartment. Be careful as it can sometimes be quite heavy.
5. Take the new starter and insert it into the bell housing. Reattach the bolts you removed earlier to secure it in place.
6. Reconnect the starter wires, ensuring that the positive wire goes to the positive terminal of the starter solenoid and the negative wire goes to the negative terminal.
7. Reconnect the negative terminal of the battery.
8. Start the vehicle to check if the starter works properly.
Before starting the engine, make sure there are no tools left in the engine bay.
