How do you change rear brake pads on 2001 vw passat?

Tools and Materials:

- Jack and jack stands

- Lug wrench

- Socket wrench

- Flat-head screwdriver

- Brake grease

- New brake pads

Instructions:

1. Engage the parking brake.

2. Loosen the lug nuts.

Do not remove the lug nuts completely.

3. Raise the vehicle using the jack and place it on jack stands.

Leave the parking brake engaged.

4. Remove the lug nuts and take off the wheel.

5. Remove the two bolts that hold the caliper in place.

There is one bolt on either side of the caliper.

6. Use a flat-head screwdriver to pry the caliper off the rotor.

There may be some resistance.

7. Clean the caliper and rotor.

Use a wire brush to remove any rust or dirt.

8. Apply brake grease to the caliper and rotor.

9. Re-install the caliper and bolt it in place.

Tighten the bolts to the specified torque.

10. Put the wheel back on and tighten the lug nuts.

11. Lower the vehicle and remove the jack stands.

12. Test the brakes.

Press the brake pedal several times and check that they feel firm and respond well.
