How do you replace rotor and brake pads on a 1995 Nissan maxima?

Tools and Materials Needed:

- Brake cleaner

- Bungee cord or zip tie

- C-clamp

- Flathead screwdriver

- Jack and jack stands

- Lug wrench

- New brake pads and rotors

- Pliers

- Ratcheting wrench or breaker bar

- Socket set

Instructions:

1. Park the car on a flat, level surface, turn off the engine and engage the parking brake.

2. Loosen the lug nuts on the wheels that you will be working on. DO NOT remove them completely.

3. Jack the car up high enough until you can easily remove the wheels. You may have to loosen the lug nuts a bit more to remove them completely.

4. Slide the bungee cord or zip tie on top of the brake caliper to secure it.

5. Remove the two bolts holding the brake caliper in place with a ratchet wrench or breaker bar.

6. Once the bolts are removed, lift the caliper up and out of the way, being careful not to damage the brake line.

7. Inspect the old brake pads. If they are worn down to less than 1/4 of an inch, they should be replaced.

8. Remove the old brake pads from the caliper by using a flathead screwdriver to pry them out.

9. Clean the caliper with brake cleaner to remove any dirt or debris.

10. Install the new brake pads by sliding them into the caliper. Make sure that the pads are seated properly and that the backing plate is facing outward.

11. Reinstall the brake caliper and secure it with the bolts.

12. Remove the bungee cord or zip-tie.

13. Install the wheel and tighten the lug nuts until they are snug.

14. Lower the car and remove the jack stands.

15. Repeat steps 5-14 on the other wheel if needed.

Note:

Be sure to check the brake fluid reservoir and add more fluid if necessary. Also, it's important to bed in new brake pads by driving slowly and applying light pressure to the brakes for the first few hundred miles.
