Changing the brake pads on an 83 Mercedes

Tools needed

- Socket set

- Brake cleaner

- New brake pads

- C-clamp or brake caliper tool

Instructions

1. First park the car in a safe location and engage the parking brake. Jack up the front of the car and support it on jack stands.

2. Remove the lug nuts and wheel covers.

3. Locate the brake calipers. The brake calipers are located on the back of the wheel hub. They are held in place by two bolts.

4. Remove the caliper bolts. You may need a breaker bar to loosen up the caliper bolts. Be careful not to drop any of the bolts.

5. Lift up the brake caliper. This will expose the old brake pads.

6. Remove the brake pads. Push them apart and remove them from the caliper.

7. Clean the brake caliper. Spray it with brake cleaner and wipe it clean with a rag.

8. Install the new brake pads. Put them in the caliper and push them together.

9. Reinstall the brake caliper. Put the bolts back in and tighten them up.

10. Reinstall the wheel cover and lug nuts.

11. Lower the car down from the jack stands.
