1. Park your vehicle on a level surface and turn off the engine.
2. Apply the parking brake.
3. Open the hood of your car and remove the air filter assembly.
4. Locate the shift linkage rod. It is connected to the transmission on one end and to the shift lever on the other end.
5. Disconnect the shift linkage rod from the transmission. There is a bolt that holds the rod in place. Remove the bolt and then you can slide the rod off the transmission.
6. Disconnect the shift linkage rod from the shift lever. There is a clip that holds the rod in place. Pry the clip off with a flat-head screwdriver and then you can slide the rod off the shift lever.
7. Inspect the shift linkage rod for damage. If the rod is bent or damaged, it will need to be replaced.
8. Install the new shift linkage rod in the reverse order of removal.
9. Test the shifter to make sure that it is working properly.
