Reason 1: Dead Key Battery
Solution: Try replacing the battery in the smart key.
Reason 2: Interference or Obstruction
Solution: Ensure that there are no objects or items in the vicinity of the ignition that might be causing obstruction or interfering with the key insertion.
Reason 3: Steering Wheel Lock or Gear Selection
Solution: Ensure that the steering wheel is unlocked and the gear lever is in the “P” position.
Reason 4: Damaged or Misaligned Key Slot
Solution: Look closely at the ignition slot for any visible damage or misalignment.
Reason 5: Faulty Ignition Switch
Solution: If the issue persists, there might be a problem with the ignition switch itself. It is recommend visiting a authorized Mercedes-Benz technician to evaluate and possibly replace the ignition switch.
Note: Some Mercedes-Benz S430 models require the physical key located inside the smart key to be used in emergency situations (such as a low battery in the smart key). Check your user manual for additional guidance if this is the case with your vehicle.
