Tools and materials needed:
- Small flathead screwdriver
- Phillips head screwdriver
- New door jamb switch
1. Locate the door jamb switch. The door jamb switch is located inside the door frame, on the side of the door that is closest to the car. It is usually a small, rectangular black or white box with a wire attached to it.
2. Remove the door panel. To remove the door panel, you will need to remove the screws that hold it in place. There are usually two or three screws located around the perimeter of the door panel. Once you have removed all of the screws, gently pull the door panel off of the door. Be careful not to break the door panel or any of the clips that hold it in place.
3. Disconnect the wire from the door jamb switch. Once the door panel is removed, you will be able to see the door jamb switch. Disconnect the wire from the switch by gently prying it off with a small flathead screwdriver.
4. Remove the old door jamb switch. Once the wire is disconnected, you can remove the old door jamb switch. To do this, use a Phillips head screwdriver to remove the screws that hold the switch in place.
5. Install the new door jamb switch. Place the new door jamb switch in the same position as the old one. Secure it in place with the screws that you removed in the previous step.
6. Connect the wire to the new door jamb switch. Connect the wire to the new door jamb switch by gently pushing it on until it snaps into place.
7. Reinstall the door panel. Reinstall the door panel by inserting it back into the door frame. Make sure that all of the clips are securely in place.
8. Test the door jamb switch. Test the door jamb switch by opening and closing the door. The door light should come on when the door is open and go off when the door is closed.
If the door jamb switch is still not working, you may need to replace the door jamb switch relay. The relay is located in the fuse box under the hood of the car.
