Each camshaft has a small hole near where the cam lobe meets the valve stem. To measure the clearance, loosen the camshaft journals by removing the bolts on either side of the sprocket. Using the appropriate size feeler gauge, place it between the cam lobe and the valve stem and measure the gap. For this specific bike, the clearance for intake valves is 0.005-0.009 in (0.12-0.23mm) and the clearance for exhaust valves is 0.007-0.011 in (0.17-0.27mm). If the clearance is not within these specifications, the valve must be adjusted.
To adjust the valve clearance, you will need to loosen the camshaft sprocket bolt and turn the sprocket until the clearance is correct. Once the clearance is correct, tighten the camshaft sprocket bolt.
Once you have adjusted the valve clearances on all of the valves, you can re-attach the cylinder head and start the engine.
