What kinds of license do you need to drive a scooter in Arizona?

To legally operate a scooter in Arizona, you must have at least a Class M license or any license that includes operation of a Class M license, such as a driver's license with a motorcycle endorsement or a commercial driver's license (CDL).

* Class M license: This license allows you to operate only scooters with an engine displacement of 50cc or less. You can obtain a Class M license by passing a written knowledge test and a vision test at the Motor Vehicle Division (MVD).

Alternatively, you can operate a scooter with an M license if you already hold:

* A valid Arizona driver license with motorcycle privileges.

* A valid CDL with motorcycle privileges.

* A valid Arizona driver license that has been upgraded to include M license privileges.

Note:

* Learner's permits are not valid for operating a scooter.

* A regular Arizona state driver's license without a motorcycle endorsement does not allow you to legally operate a scooter on the road.

* Non-resident drivers with a valid Class M or equivalent license from their home state may be allowed to operate a scooter in Arizona for up to 90 days.
