* Fuel filter clogging: While less likely to be the *direct* cause of the stall *after* refilling (it would likely cause issues *before* running out), running extremely low on gas can stir up sediment in the tank, and this could partially clog the fuel filter. The sudden influx of fresh fuel may highlight the partial blockage.
* Electrical issues: Though less common, extremely low fuel situations might stress the electrical system related to the fuel pump, leading to a temporary malfunction.
* Improper refilling: Though rare, very rarely a car might stall if the filling nozzle isn't properly seated, leading to air being introduced into the system. This is more likely to lead to a gradual loss of power than an immediate stall.
What to do if this happens:
* Wait a few minutes: Sometimes, simply allowing the fuel pump to work and clear the air bubbles is sufficient. Try turning the ignition on (don't start the engine) for a few seconds to allow the pump to prime the system, then try starting again. Repeat this a couple of times if necessary.
* Check the fuel level: Ensure you actually filled the tank sufficiently.
* If it doesn't start, call a mechanic: Continued stalling after refilling could indicate a more serious issue with the fuel system (pump, filter, etc.) requiring professional attention.
