Do I need liability insurance for a rental car in Florida?

In the State of Florida, all drivers are required by law to carry a minimum amount of liability insurance when renting or operating a motor vehicle – rental or otherwise.

It is the driver’s responsibility to ensure they have appropriate car insurance coverage in place before getting behind the wheel, but it is also important to note that most car rental agencies in the state will also provide liability insurance options for renters, usually as an “add-on” or optional extra to the basic rental cost.

In many cases, the amount of minimum coverage dictated by the State is often not sufficient to cover the full extent of damages or injuries caused in an accident, so it’s advisable to purchase additional liability insurance to ensure you are adequately covered in the event of a collision or other incident while driving a rental car.
