Some states offer a CDL Class B, which allows you to drive a single vehicle with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of 26,001 to 40,000 pounds. A CDL Class B also allows you to drive any vehicle that a CDL Class C allows.
To obtain a CDL Class C, you must pass a written test, a driving skills test, and a vision test. You must also be at least 18 years old, have a valid driver's license, and be able to pass a physical examination.
In addition to the written and driving tests, you may also be required to complete a training course in order to obtain a CDL. The length of the training course will vary depending on the state in which you live.
Once you have obtained a CDL, you must renew it every two years. To renew your CDL, you must pass a written test and a vision test. You may also be required to complete a continuing education course.
