When vehicle is in park and the emergency brake set do you let off first before putting gear or release it prior to gear?

It is best to release the parking brake before putting the vehicle into gear. This is because the parking brake is designed to hold the vehicle in place when it is not in use. If you put the vehicle in gear while the parking brake is still engaged, the vehicle will lurch forward and could cause an accident.

To release the parking brake, simply press the parking brake release button. The button is usually located on the floorboard near the driver's seat. Once you have pressed the button, the parking brake will be disengaged and you can put the vehicle into gear.
