- Look for a wide shoulder, away from traffic. Turn on your hazard lights, switch on your parking brake, and secure any loose objects in the car.
2. Evaluate the situation.
- Can you safely fix the problem yourself? If so, do so and continue on your way. If not, call for roadside assistance or a tow truck.
3. Call for help.
- If you need assistance, call your roadside assistance provider or a tow truck company. Be prepared to provide them with your location, vehicle make and model, and a description of the problem.
4. Stay with your vehicle.
- Do not leave your vehicle unattended. If you must leave, lock it, and take your valuables with you.
5. Be patient.
- Roadside assistance or towing can take time, so be patient. Stay calm and relax.
