Instead, do the following:
- Keep the car in gear. This will help to slow the car down.
- Use the emergency brake. The emergency brake is a backup braking system that is independent of the main brake system.
- Steer the car to a safe place. If possible, pull over to the side of the road. If you are in the middle of an intersection, try to steer the car into a clear area.
- Call for help. Once you are in a safe place, call for help from a tow truck or mechanic.
