- Clogged carburetor jets. If the jets in the carburetor are clogged, it will not get enough fuel to run properly. You can clean the jets by removing the carburetor and spraying them with carburetor cleaner.
- Float height too high. If the float height in the carburetor is too high, the carburetor will flood and the engine will not get enough air to run. You can adjust the float height by bending the float tab.
- Vacuum leak. If there is a vacuum leak between the carburetor and the engine, it will cause the engine to run lean and may make starting the engine much harder. You can check for a vacuum leak by spraying carb cleaner around the carburetor and intake manifold while the engine is running. If the engine RPM changes, you have a vacuum leak.
- Ignition system problems. If the ignition system is not working properly, the engine will not get the spark it needs to start and run. You can check the ignition system by testing the spark plug, spark plug wire, and ignition coil.
- Fuel filter clogged. If the fuel filter is clogged, it will not allow enough fuel to flow to the carburetor. You can clean the fuel filter by removing it and blowing compressed air through it.
