1. Ensure the parking brake is engaged. This prevents the car from rolling.
2. Press the clutch pedal all the way to the floor. This disengages the engine from the transmission.
3. Turn the key to the "on" position. This powers up the electronics. You may hear the fuel pump prime briefly.
4. Turn the key to the "start" position. Hold the key only until the engine starts. Don't hold it for an extended period.
5. Slowly release the clutch pedal while gently increasing the throttle. You'll need to find the "bite" point of the clutch (where the engine starts to engage the transmission) and smoothly release it to avoid stalling. This takes practice. If you stall, just repeat steps 2-5.
6. Once the engine is running, release the parking brake.
If the car doesn't start, check the following:
* Battery: A weak battery can prevent the starter motor from turning.
* Clutch: Make sure you're pressing the clutch pedal all the way down.
* Fuel: Check that you have enough fuel.
* Starter: A faulty starter motor won't crank the engine.
* Ignition System: Problems with the ignition system can also prevent starting.
If the car still doesn't start after checking these, you may need professional help from a mechanic.
