On a 1996 Ford Aspire, the ignition coil (it doesn't have a separate amplifier; the amplifier function is integrated into the coil assembly) is located
on the top of the engine, usually near the distributor (if it has one) or directly on the spark plug rail.
Because the Aspire's engine bay is relatively small and uncluttered, it's fairly easy to spot. It's a cylindrical component, often black, with several wires connected to it. Look carefully near the spark plug wires; the coil is the component they connect to.
