General Safety Precautions (Apply to both types):
* Engage the parking brake firmly.
* Place wheel chocks behind the wheels that are *opposite* the jacked-up wheel. This prevents the vehicle from rolling.
* Work on a level surface. Avoid soft or uneven ground.
* Have someone assist you if possible. A second person can help stabilize the vehicle.
* Never get under the vehicle while it's only supported by the jack. Use jack stands for safety if you need to work under the car.
Scissor Jack (Small, usually found in the spare tire compartment):
1. Locate the jack points: Your owner's manual will show the correct jacking points on your Jeep Liberty's frame. These are reinforced areas designed for jacking.
2. Position the jack: Place the scissor jack under the designated jack point.
3. Raise the vehicle: Turn the jack handle in the appropriate direction (usually clockwise) to raise the vehicle. Raise it only high enough to clear the ground for tire changes or repairs.
4. Lower the vehicle: Turn the jack handle in the opposite direction (usually counter-clockwise) to lower the vehicle slowly and carefully.
Spare Tire Jack (Usually a crank-type jack):
1. Locate the jack points: Again, consult your owner's manual for the correct jack points.
2. Position the jack: Properly position the jack under the designated jack point.
3. Raise the vehicle: Turn the jack handle (or crank) to raise the vehicle. Be aware of the jack's reach and avoid over-cranking.
4. Lower the vehicle: Turn the jack handle in the reverse direction to lower the vehicle.
Important Note: Both types of jacks are designed for temporary use only – for tire changes or minor repairs. They are not intended to support the vehicle's weight for extended periods. If you need to work under the vehicle for an extended time, always use jack stands for safety.
