Why did Chevy discontinue the Camaro in 2002?

Chevrolet did *not* discontinue the Camaro in 2002. Production of the fourth generation Camaro ended in 2002, but the car was not discontinued. A new, fifth generation Camaro was introduced several years later, in 2009. The gap between generations was due to a combination of factors including a changing market and GM's financial priorities at the time.
