Where is the speed sensor on a 1979 Chevrolet El Camino?

The 1979 Chevrolet El Camino's speed sensor is actually part of the speedometer cable assembly. There isn't a separate electronic speed sensor like you'd find on later vehicles. The cable itself is driven by the transmission, and the speedometer (and odometer) are mechanically driven by it. Therefore, the "speed sensor" is within the transmission itself and at the point where the cable connects to the transmission. You won't find a separate component labeled as a "speed sensor". Any problems with speed indication usually point to issues within the cable, the speedometer itself, or the mechanical drive gear in the transmission.
