What year did GM turn to Chevy?

General Motors (GM) didn't "turn to Chevy." Chevrolet is one of several brands *owned* by General Motors. GM was founded in 1908 (as a holding company, evolving over time), and Chevrolet was founded in 1911 by Louis Chevrolet and William Durant (who was also involved in the early formation of GM). Chevrolet became a subsidiary of GM shortly after its founding.
