1. Locate the lower radiator hose: This hose connects the bottom of the radiator to the engine. It's usually a larger diameter hose than the upper hose.
2. Place a drain pan: Position a large drain pan underneath the lower radiator hose to catch the coolant.
3. Disconnect the hose: Carefully loosen and remove the hose clamp securing the lower radiator hose to the radiator. You'll likely need some sort of hose clamp pliers. Then carefully separate the hose from the radiator. Be prepared for coolant to flow out fairly quickly.
4. Drain completely: Allow the coolant to drain completely. This may take some time.
Important Safety Notes:
* Coolant is toxic: Wear gloves and eye protection when working with coolant. Dispose of the coolant properly according to your local regulations. Never pour it down the drain or on the ground.
* Engine should be cool: Make sure the engine is completely cool before attempting to drain the coolant. Hot coolant can cause severe burns.
* Type of coolant: Note the type of coolant used (typically 50/50 mix of antifreeze and water) to ensure you replace it with the correct type.
If you're not comfortable performing this task yourself, it's best to take your Alero to a qualified mechanic.
