How do you pull motor from 78 Chevy van?

Tools Needed:

- Wrench set

- Socket set

- Screwdriver

- Pliers

- Jack and jack stands

- Safety glasses

Instructions:

1. Prepare the van. Park the van on a level surface and apply the parking brake. Disconnect the battery cables to prevent any electrical sparks. Raise the front of the van with the jack stands so there are approximately two feet of clearance between the ground and the bottom of the van.

2. Drain the radiator and coolant. Place a drain pan under the radiator and open the drain plug. Allow all of the coolant to drain out.

3. Disconnect the fuel line and fuel tank. Use a wrench to loosen the fuel line fitting and disconnect it from the fuel tank. Then, use a screwdriver to remove the fuel tank straps and lower the fuel tank out of the way.

4. Remove the transmission mounting bolts. Use a socket wrench to remove the bolts holding the transmission to the engine.

5. Disconnect the exhaust system. Use a wrench to loosen the exhaust pipe clamps and disconnect the exhaust system from the engine.

6. Remove the starter motor. Use a socket wrench to remove the starter motor mounting bolts and remove the starter motor.

7. Disconnect the electrical connections. Disconnect the electrical wiring from the engine by removing the connectors.

8. Lift the engine. Use a floor jack to carefully lift the engine up and out of the van. Make sure to keep the engine level while lifting it out.

9. Install the new engine. Carefully lower the new engine into the van, ensuring it is correctly seated. Reconnect all of the previously removed components and wiring.

10. Fill the radiator with coolant and bleeding the engine. Fill the radiator with coolant and replace the drain plug. Close the radiator cap and the bleed screw on top of the engine block.

11. Test the engine. Reconnect the battery cables and ensure that all components are correctly seated and connected. Start the engine and let it run for several minutes to ensure it is functioning correctly.
