To change the fuel pump on a 1985 Corvette, you will need the following tools and materials:

Tools:

• Jack and jack stands

• Wrench set

• Socket set

• Flat-head screwdriver

• Phillips-head screwdriver

• Pliers

• Fuel line disconnect tool

• New fuel pump

• Fuel filter (optional)

• Rags

• Safety glasses

Instructions

1. Use a jack and jack stands to raise the rear of the Corvette and secure it.

2. Locate the fuel pump, which is mounted on the passenger side of the fuel tank.

3. Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery to prevent any electrical sparks.

4. Disconnect the fuel lines from the fuel pump using the fuel line disconnect tool. Be careful not to spill any fuel.

5. Remove the electrical connector from the fuel pump.

6. Remove the bolts that hold the fuel pump in place using a socket set.

7. Remove the old fuel pump and gasket from the fuel tank.

8. Clean the fuel tank mating surface with a rag.

9. Install the new fuel pump gasket and fuel pump into the fuel tank.

10. Tighten the bolts that hold the fuel pump in place.

11. Reconnect the fuel lines to the fuel pump.

12. Reconnect the electrical connector to the fuel pump.

13. Lower the Corvette using the jack and jack stands.

14. Turn the ignition key to the “ON” position but do not start the engine.

15. Check for any fuel leaks. If there are no leaks, start the engine and let it run for a few minutes.

16. Check the fuel pressure using a fuel pressure gauge. The fuel pressure should be within the manufacturer’s specifications.

17. If the fuel pressure is correct, reinstall the negative battery terminal.

18. Replace the fuel filter, if desired.

19. Lower the Corvette using the jack and jack stands.
