Instructions:
1. Park your vehicle in a safe location and let the engine cool completely. This is important to prevent burns.
2. Locate the water pump. It is usually found at the front of the engine, near the top of the cylinder head.
3. Disconnect the negative battery cable. This will prevent any electrical accidents from happening while you are working.
4. Drain the coolant from the radiator. There is usually a petcock or drain plug at the bottom of the radiator. Place a drain pan under the radiator and open the petcock or drain plug. Allow the coolant to drain completely.
5. Remove the serpentine belt. The serpentine belt is the long, thin belt that wraps around the front of the engine. It is usually tensioned by an automatic tensioner. Use a wrench or socket wrench to loosen the tensioner and remove the belt.
6. Remove the water pump. The water pump is usually held in place by a few bolts or nuts. Use a wrench or socket wrench to remove these bolts or nuts. Once the bolts or nuts are removed, the water pump should come off easily.
7. Clean the mating surfaces of the water pump and the engine. Use a scraper and a rag to remove any old gasket material or debris from the mating surfaces. This will ensure that the new gasket will seal properly.
8. Install the new gasket on the water pump. Make sure that the gasket is properly aligned with the mating surfaces of the water pump and the engine.
9. Install the water pump. Place the water pump in position on the engine and secure it with the bolts or nuts that you removed earlier. Tighten the bolts or nuts until they are snug.
10. Reinstall the serpentine belt. Place the serpentine belt around the pulleys on the front of the engine. Use the automatic tensioner to tension the belt.
11. Refill the radiator with coolant. Use the funnel to add coolant to the radiator. Fill the radiator until it is full.
12. Connect the negative battery cable.
13. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. This will circulate the coolant through the system and check for any leaks. If there are any leaks, tighten the bolts or nuts on the water pump until the leak stops.
