Removing Timing Belt
- Disconnect battery.
- Remove water pump pulley, water pump, oil filter and water outlet housing.
- Remove crankshaft bolt and pulley by using an impact wrench.
- Remove engine mount stud to bracket nuts; remove engine mount from bracket.
- Loosen alternator/AC bracket bolts and pivot alternator out of the way without completely removing it.
- Remove distributor cap.
- Remove two bolts that hold the front cover to the oil pump (lower) and the water pump (upper).
- Remove the three (3) cover-to-cylinder head bolts.
- With a pry bar, gently pry cover from the block while pulling it slightly toward the front.
- Cover and the oil seal will come out together.
Installing Timing Belt
- Remove belt guides; they are pressed in.
- Replace worn cover oil seals.
- Using a seal driver or deep socket of appropriate size, drive seals in until flush with the cover surface.
- Clean all old sealant from cover mounting surfaces on head and block of engine.
- Install camshaft/oil pump drive belt guides using a suitable press.
- Apply a 3mm (1/8") bead of sealant to front side of water outlet (upper) sealing surface.
- Mount cover into place; finger-tighten bolts at this time.
- Turn over engine two complete turns to align timing marks.
- While holding tension on the belt, retighten the bolts to 15 ft/lb (20 Nm).
- Install remaining components in the reverse order of their removal.
*IMPORTANT*
Make sure that all accessory drive belts are properly adjusted as soon as installation is complete.
