Disconnect the negative battery cable from the terminal to prevent electricity from going to the ignition while you're working.
Step 2: Loosen and Detach Drive Belt
- Underneath the tractor deck should be a tensioner arm located on the left-hand side. Locate the spring and loosen it with a wrench
- Lift the mower deck by putting a block under the center or on the lift arms.
- Slide the drive belt off the transmission pulley, around the idler pulley, and finally off the engine crankshaft pulley.
- Now, detach the drive belt from the mower deck.
Step 3: Attach New Drive Belt
- Install the new belt around the engine crankshaft pulley first, then route the belt around the transmission pulley and the idler pulley.
- Reattach the drive belt to the mower deck.
Step 4: Tighten Tension Arm and Reconnect Battery
- With the drive belt installed correctly, tighten the tensioner arm spring with a wrench and slide the tension arm back into place so the spring locks into position.
- Lower the mower deck
- Reconnect the battery by reattaching the negative terminal to the battery.
