Why does car start but wont go in reverse?

Potential causes why a car starts but won’t go into reverse:

- Transmission fluid issues: Low or dirty transmission fluid can cause a car to have trouble engaging reverse. Check the transmission fluid level and condition and add or change it as needed.

- Faulty reverse gear position switch: The reverse gear position switch sends a signal to the transmission control unit (TCU) indicating that the car is in reverse. If the switch is faulty, the TCU won't receive the signal, and the car won't be able to engage reverse.

- Faulty transmission control unit (TCU): The TCU is responsible for controlling the transmission's shifting. If the TCU is faulty, it may not be able to send the correct signals to the transmission to engage reverse.

- Malfunctioning solenoids: Solenoids are electrical components that control the flow of hydraulic fluid in the transmission. If a solenoid is malfunctioning, it may not be able to direct fluid to the correct channels to engage reverse.

- Mechanical issues: Mechanical problems within the transmission, such as worn or broken gears, can also prevent the car from going into reverse.
