1. Gather your tools and materials.
* Spark plug socket wrench
* Spark plug gap gauge
* New spark plugs (Consult your owner's manual for the correct type and size)
* Ratchet
* Extension bar
* Anti-seize lubricant
2. Locate the spark plugs.
The spark plugs are located on the top of the engine, under the ignition coils.
3. Remove the ignition coils.
Use a ratchet and extension bar to remove the bolts that hold the ignition coils in place. Be careful not to drop the bolts into the engine. Once the bolts are removed, lift the ignition coils straight up and out of the engine.
4. Remove the old spark plugs.
Use a spark plug socket wrench to loosen and remove the old spark plugs. Be careful not to drop the old spark plugs into the engine.
5. Gap the new spark plugs.
Use a spark plug gap gauge to ensure that the new spark plugs are gapped correctly. The gap should be 0.040-0.044 inches.
6. Apply anti-seize lubricant to the new spark plugs.
Apply a small amount of anti-seize lubricant to the threads of the new spark plugs. This will help to prevent the spark plugs from seizing in the engine.
7. Install the new spark plugs.
Hand-tighten the new spark plugs into the engine. Once the spark plugs are hand-tight, use a spark plug socket wrench to tighten them until they are snug. Be careful not to over-tighten the spark plugs.
8. Reinstall the ignition coils.
Reinstall the ignition coils in the reverse order that you removed them. Tighten the bolts until they are snug.
9. Start the engine.
Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. Check for any leaks or unusual noises. If everything seems fine, turn off the engine and enjoy your newly tuned up Kia Spectra!
