Lost ignition key to 74 Chevy pickup so how do you start it without key?

Here are a few methods you can try to start your 74 Chevy pickup without the key:

Method 1: Screwdriver and Hammer:

1. Locate the ignition switch on your Chevy pickup. It's usually located on the right side of the steering column.

2. Take a flat-head screwdriver and insert it into the ignition switch.

3. Use a hammer to gently tap the end of the screwdriver to turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.

4. Test to see if the engine starts.

Method 2: Paper Clip or Wire:

1. Straighten out a paper clip or piece of wire.

2. Insert one end of the paper clip into the "ACC" position of the ignition switch.

3. Insert the other end of the paper clip into the "START" position of the ignition switch.

4. Push the paper clip or wire to turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position and crank the engine.

5. Test to see if the engine starts.

Method 3: Direct Starter Connection:

1. Open the hood of your Chevy pickup.

2. Locate the starter solenoid on the engine. It's usually located on the driver's side of the engine, near the bottom.

3. Disconnect the wire connected to the positive (+) terminal on the starter solenoid.

4. Touch the end of the wire to the positive (+) terminal on the starter solenoid again, creating a brief electrical connection. This should crank the engine.

5. Test to see if the engine starts.

Note:

The above methods are temporary solutions to starting your vehicle. Attempting to start your vehicle without a key carries some risk and may be illegal in some areas. It's recommended to see a qualified auto mechanic or consult your vehicle's owner's manual for proper key replacement procedures.
