Why the car manufactures collected and destroyed electric vehicles?

Car manufacturers have not engaged in a practice of collecting and destroying electric vehicles. Instead, electric vehicles, like other types of vehicles, go through a typical life cycle, including use by owners, potential resale, and eventual recycling or scrapping at the end of their lifespan.
