What is new car tax in Iowa?

Iowa does not charge a new car tax. Instead, Iowa collects annual vehicle registration fees based on the type of vehicle and its weight. The vehicle registration fee ranges from $46 for a passenger car weighing less than 3,000 pounds to $481 for a commercial truck weighing more than 55,000 pounds. There is also a $5 vehicle title fee and a $1.50 transfer fee when registering a new vehicle.
