Last year I wrote an article about Renault allowing to buy out the battery lease in Portugal and Spain. The process isn’t always easy, because communicating with RCI is a difficult task, not only for dealers, but especially for private customers.
Nonetheless, it’s possible to get good results if you’re persistent. If you’re really interested in buying an used Renault Zoe, but don’t want to pay a lifetime battery rental, you should contact RCI by phone and e-mail, if it doesn’t work, contact multiple dealers and explain that you’re only interested in buying an used Zoe without battery rental. Some dealers have better communication channels with RCI than others, which make the process of the battery lease buy out much easier for those dealers.
Even in Portugal, where the battery lease buy out is already possible for a long time, the process isn’t easy for private customers.
Anyway, in Germany, RCI is now communicating that customers will soon be able to do it.
Allowing customers to buy out the battery lease of used Zoes will reduce the time they sit on dealers’ lots, essentially depreciating.
For example, in France you can buy an used Zoe for little more than 7.000 €, if you pay 5.000 € for the battery you get a nice affordable electric car.
