What if your car is over heating and when you put the heater cools it down?

First, stop driving and pull over to the side of the road safely. If your car is overheating, you need to stop driving it as soon as possible. Continuing to drive could damage your engine.

Once you've pulled over, check the coolant levels in your car. If the coolant is low that could be the cause of your overheating.

* Look at your temperature gauge. If the gauge is in the red zone, it means your engine is overheating.

* Turn off the engine and pop the hood. Don't try to open the radiator cap if it's still hot. Let it cool down for a few minutes before carefully removing it.

* Look at the coolant level. If it's low, turn on the heater to full. This will divert hot water from the engine and help to cool it down.

If the coolant level is below the "full" mark, add coolant to your car. (Don't forget to dilute concentrated coolant with water 50/50.)

* Once you've added coolant, start the engine and let it run for a few minutes to let it warm up.

* Turn the heater on to full.

* If your car is still overheating, turn on the air conditioning and point it towards the engine bay. This will help to draw hot air away from the engine.

If your car's engine cools down, you can drive it to a mechanic for further diagnosis and repair. However, it's important to note that driving with an overheating engine can cause serious damage to the vehicle. It is best to have the vehicle towed to a repair shop if it is overheating.

Be sure to keep an eye on your coolant levels and check your temperature gauge regularly, especially in hot weather. If you notice your car overheating again, stop driving and take it to a mechanic right away.
