- Flat-head screwdriver
Procedure:
There is no external lever or button to pop the hood of a Mercedes-Benz 300 SL. Therefore, you will need a flat-head screwdriver to open it. While inside, you will also need to pull a lever, which is located beneath the dashboard, on the driver’s side.
1. Once the screwdriver and the vehicle are obtained, park your Mercedes on level ground.
2. Get out and open the driver’s side door.
3. Locate the release latch inside on the driver’s side under the dashboard. There should be a picture of an open hood next to it.
4. Gently pull upwards on the lever while at the same time lifting up on the hood with your free hand.
5. While using the screwdriver, release the secondary hood latch.
6. Insert the screwdriver into the small hole located to the right of the emblem. Press down on the small lever using the flat-head screwdriver. If everything has gone correctly, the hood should now be released.
7. Go around to the front and lift up the hood of your Mercedes-Benz fully.
8. Use the hood prop rod to prop the hood open.
9. If desired, you can replace your flat-head screwdriver with the original plastic tool located inside the passenger compartment.
