Ballast Resistor Location for 1996 Volvo 850

In the 1996 Volvo 850, the ballast resistor is located behind the glove box. The following instructions show you how to access and remove the ballast resistor.

1. Open the glove box.

2. Remove the two screws holding the glove box in place.

3. Lower the glove box to the bottom.

4. Remove the foam block on the left side of the glove box opening.

5. Locate the ballast resistor behind the foam block. It is a black cylindrical component with two electrical connections.

6. Disconnect the electrical connections from the resistor by squeezing the connector clips and pulling the connectors off.

7. The blower motor resistor should be bolted to a metal bracket, remove these bolts to get the resistor out.

8. Remove the resistor from the vehicle and inspect it for any signs of damage, such as cracks, burns, or loose wires.

9. If the ballast resistor is damaged, replace it with a new one.

Re-install the new resistor by reversing the above steps.

Please note that this process is very delicate and requires good skills of dismantling and replacing car components. If not well installed or done it can affect other car components.
