1. Park your car on level ground and turn off the engine. Allow the engine to cool down for a few minutes.
2. Open the hood of your car.
3. Locate the transmission fluid dipstick. It is usually located on the passenger side of the engine compartment, near the back of the engine. The dipstick is usually marked with a red handle.
4. Pull the dipstick out and wipe it clean with a rag. Then re-insert the dipstick into the transmission fluid filler tube.
5. Pull the dipstick out again and check the level of the transmission fluid. The fluid level should be between the two marks on the dipstick.
6. If the transmission fluid level is low, add enough transmission fluid to bring the level up to the proper level. Use a funnel to add the fluid.
7. Once you have added enough fluid, re-insert the dipstick and check the level again.
8. Close the hood of your car.
You should also have the transmission fluid changed every 60,000 miles or as specified in your owner's manual.
