Georgia Code section 43-11 states that in order to engage in the business of towing and/or recovering motor vehicles, a person should obtain a repossession agency and vehicle towing license.
Repossessor Class B License
* Fees
$200 application fee
$200 annual renewal fee
$35 fingerprint fee
$200 vehicle towing or repo service test fee
$200 recovery agent test fee
* Application Requirements
Complete an application form.
Include photos of repossessor vehicle(s) with business name and repossessor license number on both side doors or sides.
Provide proof of worker’s compensation insurance as required by Georgia code 34-9-200.
* Training Requirements
Complete 20 hours of training related to repossession and recovery (per 40-5-233).
Complete the training within 12 months of application (per 40-5-233 (b)(4)).
Training shall include courses in:
Vehicle operation and safety
Legal requirements of repossession and vehicle towing
Ethics of the repossession and towing industry
Customer relations
Repossessing a motor vehicle without a breach of the peace
Safe operation and storage of towed or recovered vehicles
Towing and recovery equipment
Complete and submit a vehicle towing and repossession service examination with a score of 80 or higher.

Provide proof of liability insurance as required by Georgia code 40-5-230.
Provide proof of worker’s compensation insurance as required by Georgia code 34-9-200.
* Training requirements
20 hours of training related to repossession and recovery (per 40-5-233).
Complete training within 12 months of application.
Training shall include courses in:
Repossession laws
Rights and remedies of debtors and creditors
Ethics of the repossession industry
Safety
Public relations
Complete and submit a recovery agent examination with a score of 80 or higher.
