Can you be charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle if test drive car and bring it back?

In general, taking a vehicle for a test drive and returning it to the dealership or seller usually isn't considered unauthorized if:

- You stay with the salesperson

- Stay within a set route or area

- Don't use car in way not intended (off-roading )

Some States require you follow additional requirements including

- Filling out paperwork in advance of the test drive

- Test drives only after business hours and on specified routes

If you fail to return a the vehicle, exceed designated boundaries, or don't return when expected without communicating you intentions you maybe arrested for theft related crime and face civil damages
