Park your vehicle on a level surface and turn off the engine.
1. Locate the transmission fluid dipstick. In the Ford Ranger, it is usually a yellow or orange plastic handle located near the back of the engine compartment.
2. Pull out the dipstick and wipe it clean with a rag.
3. Reinsert the dipstick and check the fluid level. The fluid should be between the "FULL" and "ADD" marks on the dipstick.
4. If the fluid level is low, you will need to add some transmission fluid. Use the type of transmission fluid recommended by your vehicle's owner's manual.
5. To add fluid, use a funnel to pour the transmission fluid into the dipstick tube. Be careful not to overfill the transmission fluid, as this can cause damage to your vehicle.
6. Once the fluid level is correct, reinsert the dipstick and push it all the way down until it clicks into place.
Note: If the transmission fluid is dark brown or black in color, or smells burnt, it may need to be changed.
