Instructions:
1. Park your Chrysler on level ground and turn off the engine. Allow it to cool down completely.
2. Open the hood and locate the water pump. It is usually a cylindrical-shaped object with a pulley attached to it. On the 2000 Chrysler, it is located on the passenger side of the engine.
3. Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery. This will prevent you from getting shocked while you are working on the car.
4. Drain the antifreeze from the radiator. There is a drain plug located near the bottom of the radiator. Open the drain plug and let the antifreeze drain into a container.
5. Remove the serpentine belt. The serpentine belt is the long belt that runs around the front of the engine and powers the water pump and other accessories. You can remove it by loosening the tensioner pulley and pulling the belt off of the pulleys.
6. Disconnect the hoses that are attached to the water pump. There are usually two hoses, one that comes from the radiator and one that goes to the engine block. You can loosen the hose clamps and pull the hoses off of the nipples.
7. Remove the water pump bolts and remove the water pump. There are usually four bolts that hold the water pump in place. Once you remove the bolts, you can pull the water pump off of the engine.
8. Clean the mating surface of the engine block where the water pump will go. Remove any old gasket material or sealant.
9. Apply a new gasket to the water pump and to the mating surface of the engine block.
10. Install the new water pump. Make sure that the gasket is properly seated and that the water pump is properly aligned.
11. Reinstall the bolts and tighten.
12. Reinstall the hoses and clamps.
13. Reinstall the serpentine belt.
14. Refill the radiator with antifreeze.
15. Reconnect the negative terminal of the battery.
16. Check for any leaks. Run the engine for a few minutes and then check for any leaks around the water pump.
