1. Disconnect the battery. This will prevent the ignition from being activated while you are working on it.
2. Remove the steering column covers. There are usually two or three covers that need to be removed to access the ignition lock cylinder.
3. Remove the ignition switch. The ignition switch is usually held in place by a few screws. Once it is removed, you will be able to see the ignition lock cylinder.
4. Remove the lock cylinder retaining screw. The retaining screw is usually located on the side of the ignition lock cylinder.
5. Pull the lock cylinder out of the housing. Once the retaining screw is removed, you can pull the lock cylinder out of the housing.
6. Insert the new lock cylinder. Insert the new lock cylinder into the housing and make sure that it is seated properly.
7. Replace the lock cylinder retaining screw. Tighten the retaining screw to secure the lock cylinder in place.
8. Replace the ignition switch. Replace the ignition switch and secure it with the screws that you removed earlier.
9. Replace the steering column covers. Replace the steering column covers that you removed earlier.
10. Reconnect the battery. Reconnect the battery to power the ignition.
Note: If you are having trouble removing the lock cylinder, you may need to use a special tool called an ignition lock cylinder removal tool. This tool is available at most auto parts stores.
