1. Disconnect the battery.
This is a safety precaution to prevent the starter from accidentally being activated while you are working on it. To disconnect the battery, use a wrench to loosen the negative terminal clamp (the one marked with a "-") and remove it from the battery terminal.
2. Raise the vehicle.
This will give you more room to work under the car. You can either drive the car onto ramps or use a jack and jack stands.
3. Remove the starter cover.
The starter cover is located on the bottom of the transaxle bell housing. It is held in place by a few bolts. Remove the bolts and then lift off the cover.
4. Locate the starter bolts.
The starter bolts are located on the sides of the starter motor. They are usually 15 mm bolts.
5. Remove the starter bolts.
Use a wrench to loosen the starter bolts and then remove them. Be careful not to drop the bolts into the bell housing.
6. Remove the starter.
Once the starter bolts are removed, you can lift off the starter motor.
7. Reinstall the starter.
To reinstall the starter, simply reverse the steps above. Be sure to tighten the starter bolts securely.
8. Reconnect the battery.
Reconnect the negative terminal clamp to the battery terminal.
That's it! You have now successfully removed and reinstalled the starter on your 2002 Chrysler Town and Country.
