How do you repair or replace the heater blower resistor on a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am?

Tools Needed:

- Phillips-head screwdriver

- Socket wrench set

- Extension bar

- Ratcheting wrench

- Small pry tool

- New blower resistor assembly

Instructions:

1. Make sure the engine of your 2001 Pontiac Grand Am is turned off and completely cooled down. Disconnect the battery's negative terminal to ensure electrical safety.

2. Locate the heater blower resistor. In your Grand Am, it's typically situated on the passenger side of the car, behind the glove box.

3. Open the glove box by releasing the latch. Then, squeeze the sides of the glove box and lower it until it's fully open.

4. Look to the right side of the glove box opening. You'll find a panel secured with several Phillips-head screws. Use a screwdriver to remove these screws and lift off the panel.

5. Behind the panel, you should now be able to see the blower resistor assembly. It's usually a small black box with electrical connectors.

6. Disconnect the electrical connectors attached to the blower resistor. Press the release tabs on the connectors to disengage them.

7. Remove the mounting screws holding the blower resistor in place. These screws are usually located at the corners of the resistor assembly.

8. Carefully lift out the blower resistor assembly from its housing.

9. Compare the old blower resistor with the new one to ensure they are similar in size and shape.

10. Place the new blower resistor into its housing and secure it with the mounting screws you removed earlier.

11. Reconnect the electrical connectors you disconnected in step 6. Make sure they are firmly attached.

12. Replace the panel you removed in step 4 and secure it with the screws.

13. Close the glove box and reconnect the battery's negative terminal.

14. Start the engine and test the heater blower to make sure it works correctly. Adjust the fan speed settings to ensure the blower responds as expected.

By following these steps, you should successfully replace the heater blower resistor in your 2001 Pontiac Grand Am. If you have any difficulties or concerns during the process, refer to the vehicle's repair manual or consult with a qualified mechanic.
