Instructions:
1. Locate the spark plugs. They are located on the top of the engine, near the firewall. There are four spark plugs on a 3.1L Chevy Lumina engine.
2. Remove the spark plug wires. Use the spark plug socket wrench to loosen and remove the spark plug wires from the spark plugs. Be careful not to drop the spark plug wires into the engine compartment.
3. Remove the old spark plugs. Use the spark plug socket wrench to loosen and remove the old spark plugs. Be careful not to drop the old spark plugs into the engine compartment.
4. Gap the new spark plugs. Use the spark plug gapping tool to gap the new spark plugs to the manufacturer's specifications. The gap for a 1996 Chevy Lumina 3.1L engine is 0.045 inches.
5. Install the new spark plugs. Use the spark plug socket wrench to install the new spark plugs into the engine. Be careful not to overtighten the spark plugs.
6. Reinstall the spark plug wires. Reinstall the spark plug wires onto the spark plugs. Make sure that the spark plug wires are seated properly.
7. Start the engine. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. Listen for any unusual noises or vibrations. If you hear any unusual noises or vibrations, turn off the engine and check the spark plugs again.
Tips:
- When removing the old spark plugs, be careful not to drop them into the engine compartment. If a spark plug does fall into the engine compartment, use a magnet to retrieve it.
- When installing the new spark plugs, be careful not to overtighten them. Overtightening the spark plugs can damage the engine.
